Redfall Players Still Waiting For DLC Promised In $100 Edition One Year Later

An Elaborate Scam From Arkane?

Story Highlight
  • Arkane Austin sold a $100 version of Redfall dubbed the Bite Back Edition.
  • This bundle promised two post-launch heroes, but fans are still waiting for the content one whole year later.
  • Bethesda and Arkane Austin remain completely silent on the DLC.

Redfall officially turned one yesterday. Last year, this release launched to the industry’s high expectations after Arkane Austin’s six-year-long slumber following the launch of Prey.

Little did fans know that it would soon become the developer’s worst-rated release. Like other studios, Bethesda and Arkane Austin sold an expensive $100 edition of the game, promising post-launch DLC content for the most hardcore crowd.

Exactly one year later, the few players who brought this edition are left with nothing to show for their $100, with no choice but to wait for Arkane Austin’s response.

Why it matters: Bethesda and Arkane Austin are legally required to fulfill their promises by adding the DLC characters. If they are unable to do so, they run the risk of being involved in a lawsuit.

Redfall Bite Back Edition
The Redfall Bite Back Edition Is Still Up On The Xbox Store

Redfall was Xbox’s first major AAA $70 release as the gaming giant sought to transition to the new pricing model. The title fell flat on its face at launch, completely dying off within a year.

However, it came with a $100 price tag for the Bite Back Edition. This version of the game promised the Redfall Hero Pass, which grants access to two brand-new heroes as post-launch content.

Those who brought the base edition could still pay an additional $30 to upgrade to this version. However, exactly one year later, many have been left wondering if Bethesda and Arkane Austin pulled off an elaborate scam.

The team has been mostly radio silent about Redfall. It’s also important to note that these characters were initially meant to launch in 2023, but plans changed once the title launched in a poor state.

Bethesda confirmed that the content would not arrive before 2024 in November 2023. However, 2024 is nearly halfway over, yet fans have been left in the dark.

Fans discussing the situation on forums reckon that content is still being worked on, albeit by a very small team. They expect Bethesda and Arkane Austin to roll everything out at once as a final update eventually.

It is also important to note that Redfall is still receiving small updates on SteamDB, signifying that changes are being made.

This is the classic example of buying into a promise, and why season passes don’t always work well for single-player releases. Xbox is still selling this expensive content upgrade for Redfall, but we doubt anybody is in a rush to buy the DLC, let alone the base game.
