Story Highlight
  • Studio worked on a Coop RPG action titled “Project Dagger” for several years.
  • The studio has now cancelled the game because it assumes that the project didn’t have the potential to thrive and get commercial acclaim in the industry.
  • The cancellation also caused a loss of $20 million for the studio.

People Can Fly is the developer behind major commercial acclaims like Gears of War, Outsiders, and others.

The company has been working on aaa coop action RPG for several years. However, there is no good news, as the studio cancelled the game.

Why it matters: Losing such revenue might cause problems for the studio, such as developmental issues for upcoming projects.

Project Dagger was a new co-op RPG from People Can Fly, reported to be published by Take Two. However, the idea shaked as Take Two pushed itself away from the project.

However, the studio continued the game as its self-publisher, and it was reported to be released in 2026, but now, finally, the company has put its hands away from the game, making the project dust.

This was announced in the studio’s financial call on April 5 but was spotted via Twitter.

People can fly told the main reason behind the game’s cancellation was the lack of confidence in its future commercial success, while the potential for the project to thrive in the market was also unsteady.

Meanwhile, the studio confirms the nearly 20 million revenue loss because of the game’s cancellation via the financial report.

However, the concern arises here is how it’s possible for a project that has been in development for several years and costs such big revenues to have no potential for growth in the industry.

Moreover, the studio hadn’t known about the issues for several years, and suddenly, it was not a worthy project.

Nevertheless, as per the Xbox multiplatform strategy, gears of War might be the game for this one, while the game creator also agrees with this idea of bringing it to PlayStation.

Apart from this, the studio is working on various other titles, such as Project Gemini, Project Maverick, and others, which might be affected after such a big revenue loss from the game.
