This caused further frustration, which led fans to bombard the game with negative reviews.
Why it matters: Microtransactions in single-player games that are already expensive will never make sense, and they cause unnecessary backlash from players.
Even if you want to edit your character creation, you would need to buy a microtransaction pack, which is brutal for fans. Character creation was one of the main highlights of the game, and many liked the advanced creations.
The option to edit your character with in-game currency exists, yet Capcom appears to be selling microtransactions to entice the masses. Dragon’s Dogma 2 already costs $70, so this is a hard pill to swallow.
In the aftermath, over 60% of the nearly 6,000 reviews are negative. Microtransactions also extend to fast travel. Before launch, the director made a point to state that Dragon’s Dogma 2 would not encourage fast travel.
However, allowing more frequent use through microtransactions has angered the players.
Furthermore, the game’s PC port is quite terrible. For a massive publisher like Capcom, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has launched in an unacceptable state. Performance can vary wildly from one moment to another, leading to an inconsistent experience.
Adding fuel to the fire, you get access to a single save slot. This means that multiple playthroughs at once are not possible, showcasing another red flag for the RPG.
Critics have given the title positive reviews overall, and it even became a best-seller on Steam before release. However, this major turn of events could cause fans to refund the RPG.
