The Worst of Ada Lovelace Is Being Killed Off!

Story Highlights
  • Nvidia has officially confirmed new Super graphics cards.
  • The GeForce RTX 4080 and 4070 Ti are being discontinued to make room for these new graphics cards.
  • These GPUs cost $1200 and $800, respectively, making them extremely unpopular among PC gamers.

Following speculation after leaks and rumors, Nvidia has finally announced the GeForce RTX 40 Super series.

Three new graphics cards, the RTX 4070 Super, 4070 Ti Super, and the 4080 Super, will be available on the market by the end of this month. However, they will not all slot in within the existing lineup since Nvidia is officially discontinuing two of its older GPUs.

Why it matters: Nvidia shipped the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080 at prices of $800 and $1200, respectively. Higher-end AIB models could cost even more, making them terrible value propositions.

Prior to the release, rumors made it clear that Nvidia would be getting rid of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. While the Ada Lovelace lineup, in particular, was criticized for its poor price-to-performance ratio, this graphics card was considered the worst of the bunch.

However, there were still doubts about the existence of the GeForce RTX 4080. Many believed Nvidia would lower its price to adjust the lineup, but Andreas Schilling from HardwareLux confirms this is not the case.

Nivida has clarified to the press that two GPUs are being eliminated from the lineup. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and 4080 will no longer be sold since they have been replaced by superior models.

On the other hand, Nvidia has officially lowered the price of the GeForce RTX 4070. Starting at $550, this GPU is now very close to its predecessor’s MSRP, offering a solid performance increase in addition to software-based DLSS 3 features.

The Super lineup will launch starting on 17 January. Meanwhile, both the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and 4080 are still available to purchase from various retailers, but they are hardly worth a recommendation with the impending launch of the new graphics cards.

Still, just before the new launch, retailers might consider price cuts to get rid of existing stock before the anticipated new graphics cards are released on the market.
