Saints Row To Live On Following Volition Games’ Closure

"Saints Row And Red Faction Will Live On"

Embracer Group recently shut down Volition Games. The studio was well-known for the Saints Row and Red Faction franchises for nearly two decades but will no longer be tied to these IPs.

Volition Games recently attempted to take the Saints Row series in a bold new direction, but its release last year was met with outrage and poor reviews. This led to a massive loss for Embracer Group after a budget of $100 million for the project.

Despite the poor release, the recent announcement became a cause for concern among fans of the Saints Row series. However, Deep Silver has confirmed that Saints Row and Red Faction will live on.

Why it matters: Following the announcement, many were concerned if this would bring Volition Games’ IPs like Saints Row and Red Faction to an unfortunate end after the recent release.

Deep Silver has bid farewell to the studio on Twitter after news of its closure broke nearly two days ago, thanking Volition Games for its work over the years. The studio said:

“We’re incredibly grateful for their unforgettable work on Saints Row and Red Faction, whose IPs will live on at PLAION.”

For the unfamiliar, Plaion was formerly known as Koch Media and currently owns publisher Deep Silver. Under Plaion, developers like Dambuster Studios, Flying Wild Hog, and the now-shut-down Volition Games have released various games.

Plaion will likely approach one of its many studios for future entries in these franchises, but this will require much longer than anticipated since Embracer Group, Plaion’s parent company, is going through a restructuring phase.

Embracer Group has confirmed future projects will be planned carefully after much consideration, so the studio will not greenlight Saints Row or Red Faction games until it sees fit.

Following the unfortunate closure of Volition Games, Plaion has the opportunity to take the series in a different direction again under new leadership, which opens up exciting possibilities for these IPs.

Fans can also expect patches for Saints Row 2022 since the game could still use various updates and bug fixes.

Following the changes, it remains to be seen what the future holds for both franchises. At the very least, fans can look forward to more titles from these IPs in the future, even if this may not happen anytime soon.
