AMD Alternate To Nvidia Frame Generation!

Nvidia has introduced DLSS 3.0 with the GeForce RTX 4000 graphics card lineup. The new upscaling technology boasts frame generation, which uses AI-generated frames for maximum performance. However, AMD is also bringing FSR 3.0 soon.

AMD’s competition to Nvidia DLSS 3.0 was announced a while ago, but the gaming giant is finally ready to offer a comprehensive look at FSR 3.0. According to leaks, AMD will use Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum to reveal the new iteration of FSR.

Why it matters: This introduction will mark a major step forward for AMD’s FSR upscaling, bringing higher frame rates and smoother performance to millions of PC users.

The leaked slide shows a nearly four times boost in performance thanks to AMD Fluid Motion Frames.

Forspoken is among the most demanding games on the market, and this demo shows that AMD’s frame-generation solution can make even the most demanding games playable at high refresh rates.

However, widespread adoption of the technology will require more time. As stated earlier, FSR 3.0 will only be available in Immortals of Aveum apart from Forspoken during launch.

The slides also leave the question of support for older AMD hardware. Unlike Nvidia, AMD may offer FSR 3.0 for RDNA 2 graphics cards. This would also open up the doors to an implementation for consoles.

Current-generation consoles have already begun to struggle with games like Star Wars Jedi Survivor dropping as low as 720p to maintain a 60FPS performance target. AMD Fluid Motion Frames may serve as a potential remedy to such issues on consoles.

Unfortunately, the slides do not point to a release date or rough release window, suggesting that AMD might need more time before FSR 3.0 is made available to gamers worldwide.

The technology was first announced in January, and the latest announcement at Gamescom will provide the first major update about the new iteration of FSR since then.

While AMD aims to catch up to Nvidia, the latter has already made another leap with DLSS.

The recently announced DLSS 3.5 brings ray reconstruction to all Nvidia RTX graphics cards, improving the quality of ray tracing with DLSS. It can also lead to further performance improvements in certain scenarios.
