Red Dead Redemption Switch Graphics Hold Up Well Against PS4

Both Run At 1080p30FPS With Similar Visuals!

Following a controversial announcement, Red Dead Redemption is now available for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Before its release, the game reached the top trending spot on PlayStation Store, highlighting a successful project for Take-Two and Rockstar Games.

With the game finally being available, various comparisons are being made between the recent versions. While the PS4 Pro offers the best version of Red Dead Redemption, the Nintendo version holds up well against the base PS4.

Why it matters: The Nintendo Switch requires extra care in optimization to make up for its lacking hardware prowess. However, the comparable release shows the studio has done a good job on the Nintendo platform.

YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits has recently posted a video comparing the three versions of Red Dead Redemption.

In terms of resolution, the Nintendo Switch and PS4 allow 1080p/30FPS gameplay. This is a notable improvement over the 640p resolution and unstable 30FPS experience of the PS3 release.

When playing in handheld mode, the Nintendo Switch continues to stay ahead of the PS3 release. With a 720p/30FPS experience, it runs extremely well on the aging Nintendo hardware.

However, the PS4 release is able to pull ahead in other areas as it can utilize AMD FSR 2 for superior image upscaling. Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering are also considerably better on the PS4 version.

Apart from these differences, Red Dead Redemption does not lose much during the transition to the Nintendo Switch. This potentially makes it the best version of the game due to the possibility of handheld gameplay.

Both versions of the game run extremely well, eliminating the poor frame rate found on the PS3 release. Load times have also been reduced by up to 3 times.

While the port comes across as a competent release compared to the GTA Trilogy, its appeal is limited by the exorbitant $50 price tag.

This price tag became controversial after Red Dead Redemption was announced, with many claiming that $50 is not justified for a 10-year-old game without major updates like 60FPS.
