Starfield Requires Whopping 140GB SSD Space on PC Platform

Previous Requirement Asked For 125GB!

Starfield is clearly the most anticipated title from Microsoft this year, and it has caught the attention of millions of gamers. The RPG is packed with a lot of content, and Bethesda Game Studios previously revealed this content would require 125GB of storage.

If the previous storage requirement wasn’t excessive enough, Microsoft has now disclosed the revised file size for Starfield on PC and Xbox Series X. The game takes up an astounding 139.84GB of SSD space on PC and 126.1GB on the Xbox Series X.

Why it matters: This requirement makes Starfield one of the largest single-player games out there and shows the increasingly popular trend of games demanding upwards of 100GB of storage.

The file size is extremely large, but given the details about Starfield’s scope thus far and the fact that the game will reportedly feature 1000 planets, it makes sense.

On the plus side, SSDs have continued to drop in price. This should mean that most PC users are well-equipped for the game. On the other hand, Microsoft has also introduced cheaper expandable storage for the Xbox Series S|X recently.

Starfield went gold yesterday, and the preload dates for the game were officially disclosed. Xbox Series X|S users can download the game today, while the preload for PC users begins on August 30.

Additionally, a recent Q&A revealed more details about Starfield. The game features a jail system similar to Skyrim and 20 unique crew members. These members have their own special skills, and players can also purchase residencies in the game.

Therefore, the staggering file sizes for Starfield might be acceptable, given the game’s content. However, HDD users are out of luck with Starfield, as SSD storage is mandatory for the game.

Starfield is scheduled to release on September 6, and while many are excited to play the game, some angry users are already planning to review bomb it upon launch.

Nonetheless, this is unlikely to leave a massive impact on the game after the excitement around Bethesda Game Studios’ first original IP in over two decades.
