Modern Warfare 3 Allegedly Limited To Remastered MW2 2009 Maps At Launch

No Original Maps For MW3 Launch!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the biggest Steam launch for the franchise, and this success also carried over to PlayStation. This allowed Activision to break the $800 million sales milestone in just three days.

The FPS IP seeks to continue this success with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 10, with a full reveal set for August 17. However, a series of leaks before the reveal have pointed to concerns for the game.

A leaker on Twitter claims Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will launch with only remastered maps from 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Why it matters: This could be the first Call of Duty launch to feature no new maps for the multiplayer mode, potentially leading to outrage from fans of the series.

It is common for Activision to release old maps in new games. Throughout the last few years, maps like Shipment and Nuketown have become staples of the IP, although they were initially released over a decade ago.

However, the leak suggests that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not offer any original maps, using every single Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map for the upcoming release.

This potentially means iconic maps like Highrise, Terminal, Rust, and more will be part of the game at launch. While this is exciting for longtime fans, audiences may not be too happy to pay $70 for a game with so much reused content.

Furthermore, the leaker pointed to the return of map voting and 150HP like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Activision has classified Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as a premium entry in the franchise to justify the $70 price tag. However, reusing all the maps from an old game certainly does not sound very premium.

A report has already suggested that the game is not much more than an expansion being released for a high price, and this leak provides further evidence that this is the case.
