The handheld market has seen a massive resurgence over the last few years. Recently launched handhelds like the Steam Deck have encouraged other manufacturers to join the market, leading to options like the Asus Rog Ally.
A new report suggests another famous company is gearing up to offer its own portable gaming hardware. According to WindowsCentral, Lenovo is working on a PC gaming handheld.
Why it matters: The handheld gaming industry has expanded rapidly after the recent success of the Steam Deck. More companies can promote further competition and innovations in the space.
According to the report, Lenovo is currently working on the Legion Go.
Unlike the Steam Deck, the handheld is expected to be based on Windows 11 and include a larger 8-inch display. This would allow for improved UI scaling since competitors like the Rog Ally and Steam Deck offer a smaller screen.
The Legion Go reportedly includes an AMD Phoenix processor. This could make it more capable than the Steam Deck, with Lenovo opting for a GPU from the RDNA 3 architecture. However, the source has been unable to confirm the exact Phoenix processor.
Previously, leaks claimed that Lenovo was hoping to break into the cloud-based handheld gaming market. Lenovo was rumored to be working on the Legion Play, but it was never released to the public.
The company has another opportunity on its hand after the recent interest in portable gaming. Nintendo can be given much of the credit for the renewed interest, with the gaming giant also expected to release its next-generation offering with handheld gameplay in 2024.
Therefore, the next year will be an exciting time for this segment of the gaming industry, with gaming giants like Nintendo returning and newcomers like Lenovo potentially joining the market.
