Taiwanese Company Making GeForce RTX 3070 With 16GB Memory

The GPU Nvidia Won't Sell Us!

The GeForce RTX 3070 was first launched back in the year 2020. Since then, this variant from Nvidia has seen many models, but the memory size of the graphics card remained the same, and it comes equipped with just 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.

Recently, a few modders tried their luck with increasing the memory size on the GeForce RTX 3070, and they were successful in modifying the memory on the GeForce RTX 3060 to 16 GB. They were also able to equip the card with a switch to select between the two memory configurations.

The modding of the GeForce RTX 3070 has caught the attention of one Taiwanese manufacturer named Gxore. The company has a custom GeForce RTX 3070 on display at Computex which comes equipped with a default memory configuration of 16 GB.

Gxore is a relatively new company that only specializes in making professional graphics cards for wall displays. Aside from Nvidia, Gxore offers AMD cards with support for multiple display solutions.

Gxore is not on the official board partners list of Nvidia. Therefore, the company is working independently by offering custom-made cards to its users, including ones that come with more memory than Nvidia intended.

If this Taiwanese company launches the 16 GB variant of the GeForce RTX 3070, Nvidia might have problems selling the upcoming 16 GB variant of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti as it will likely be cheaper to buy the previous generation offering.

Aside from Gxore, many other Chinese manufacturers are also offering similar custom-made products. AliExpress is filled with custom-made graphics cards from both AMD and Nvidia.

Users also have the option to invest in a cheaper laptop graphics card, which is modded to work on desktop computers. However, these kinds of products can come with a lot of driver-related issues.

In the case of modding graphics cards with more memory, it depends on the memory bandwidth of the graphics card. A specific card can only support a certain amount of VRAM in order for it to utilize the memory without a bottleneck.

If trends like these kick up, it would not be surprising to see even more GeForce RTX graphics cards with more memory due to the impressive price-to-performance ratio of the last generation.
