PlayStation Project Q Handheld Allegedly Lasts Up To 4 Hours Only

Disappointing Battery Life For Streaming Handheld!

Sony finally announced the rumored PlayStation handheld console in the latest showcase. Project Q is not a typical handheld console as it uses remote play to stream games directly from a PlayStation 5 console.

According to the latest report by Tom Henderson, a reputable industry insider, Project Q’s battery lasts around 3-4 hours only.

Why It Matters: Battery life is an essential part of any handheld. Recent handhelds like the Steam Deck have not had the best battery, which could have given PlayStation a slight edge over the competition.

The 3-4 hour battery life is not great compared to the competition.

The Nintendo Switch OLED can offer up to 6 hours of gameplay, but this depends on the game being played. Valve’s Steam Deck falls behind the Nintendo Switch, with comparable battery life to the Project Q. However, both of these devices play games natively and, as a result, require more power.

Project Q will also have an HD screen and feature the DualSense controller features. This may be one of the reasons for the less-than-stellar battery life, but it is still disappointing for Sony’s first handheld in many years.

The price tag for Project Q is also unknown, but some speculate it may be around $200 or more. A higher price tag than that would make the handheld less appealing to buyers considering the Steam Deck, another handheld console, a fully-fledged device, starts at $399.

Project Q is set to launch in late 2023, and PlayStation has also promised to share more news on the handheld console soon. This should include a price tag and a release date.
