The screen is brought to life using an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC. This offers a configuration of 8 cores and 16 processing threads at a Turbo frequency of 5.10 GHz.
Naturally, TSMC is behind the manufacturing using its 4nm FinFet manufacturing process. Those cores also take advantage of AMD’s latest architecture, Zen4 accompanied by AMD Radeon graphics with RDNA3 architecture offering 768 Stream Processors.
We continue with its 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and an NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. It is expected that you can choose between 512 GB and 1 TB of capacity.
ASUS ROG Ally also features a dual-fan cooling system that promises lower temperatures than the competition with lower noise. It also has the advantage of being more compact than the Steam Deck (280 x 113 x 39 mm vs 298 x 117 x 50.5 mm), and light (608 vs 669 grams). ASUS ROG Ally also includes dual front speakers and RGB LED lighting on the joystick and rear.
Regarding battery life, it does not stand out with its 40 Wh battery, the same as the Steam Deck and it will run Windows 11 operating system out of the box.
The starting models will have an SSD of at least 256 GB capacity coupled with a trimmed version of the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with a 6-core, 12-thread AMD Zen4 setup.
The biggest cutbacks come to its AMD Radeon graphics with just 256 Stream Processors. The rest of the configuration is identical, with the exception that to try to be very affordable.
ASUS will officially announce the availability and pricing information on May 11th during a dedicated event.
