Cyberpunk 2077 Looks Stunning With Ray Tracing Overdrive Mode

Coming Soon On April 11!

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a significant visual overhaul in just a few days. The upcoming ray tracing overdrive mode will add full path tracing to the game, leading to more natural lighting than before.

Nvidia has released a new video showing gamers a tiny glimpse of the visual update. Path tracing will take the game’s already impressive lighting one step further for the most immersive Cyberpunk 2077 experience yet.

Using an unlimited number of emissive sources, visual properties like global illumination and reflections will see a noticeable boost in quality. The video above demonstrates these upgrades with comparison shots between the baked lighting and ray tracing overdrive mode.

Like previous path-tracing implementations in games, Cyberpunk 2077 will be highly intensive to run at these settings. As seen above, Nvidia’s flagship GeForce RTX 4090 cannot handle the game natively at 4K resolution with the ray tracing overdrive mode enabled.

This is where DLSS 3 comes in. With AI upscaling and frame generation, RTX 4000 owners can enjoy a much smoother experience without compromising visual fidelity.

The new ray tracing overdrive mode will be available on April 11. Following the update, fans can look forward to more details on Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in June.
