Counter-Strike 2 Appears in Nvidia’s New Drivers Database

Possible CS:GO Announcement with Source 2?

Twitter user Aquarius made an exciting find in Nvidia’s new GeForce 531.18 drivers. This could mean what many Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players have been waiting for years, a port of Valve’s popular shooter to the Source 2 graphics engine or even a new iteration of CS:GO.

Source 2 was released in 2015, and the first title to use it was DOTA 2 (which previously used Source) and other Valve games such as Artifact, Dota Underlords, and Half-Life: Alyx.

Naturally, the entire CS:GO community has been waiting for Gabe Newell’s company to port the game to Source 2, and perhaps this Nvidia leak (if it can be considered as such) is a good indication.

The Counter-Strike 2 profile is somewhat ambiguous since it could mean a new series iteration (cs2.exe) or an update from CS:GO to Source 2 (cs: gos2.exe), which of course, would feature changes beyond the graphics.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive continues to be the most-played title on Steam (firmly in the #1 position), with an average of one million daily players for several years now.

The latest Counter-Strike title also recently broke its own concurrent Steam record, hinting at an all-time high interest in the long-running franchise. Therefore, a potential port to Source 2 or even a fifth main installment developed by Valve would be ideal for attracting even more new or old players to the game.
