NetEase Continues To Grow!

NetEase Games has acquired Skybox Labs, a studio based in British Columbia. The studio was founded in 2011 and has contributed to some Halo and Minecraft titles, and currently, it is working on Halo Infinite, Minecraft games, and Fallout 76.

According to Friday’s announcement, Shyang Kong, Derek MacNeil, and Steven Silvester, three of SkyBox’s co-founders, will manage an independent operation within NetEase Games.

SkyBox founder Kong said:

“We have built a team of talented individuals who are passionate and creative, and by joining NetEase Games, we will also be able to accelerate our plans to pursue new creative opportunities and enjoy access to world-class operational resources and the full breadth and depth of NetEase’s services so we can scale faster in Canada.”

The studio will continue to work with its existing partners to co-develop new games for the fans. SkyBox Labs is considered one of the best support studios, and it has two original titles, Tastee: Lethal Tactics and Stela.

We can expect to see some more content from this studio as NetEase will provide all the resources as well as execution capabilities, which will help SkyBox Labs to achieve their target faster while maintaining quality.

NetEase Games is expanding the company by adding studios, as we have seen it expanding in North America. Acquiring SkyBox Labs is an outstanding achievement, and the SkyBox founder seems satisfied by joining NetEase.

According to Kong, SkyBox studio aims to continue growing its presence in Canada while supporting its current and future partners. They also want to co-develop more AAA games for some of the biggest game studios around the world. He also said:

“Over the last decade, we’ve had the pleasure to work on beloved games such as Halo Infinite, Minecraft, and Fallout 76.”

We might see some more information regarding the studio soon. Aside from that, what do you think of NetEase acquiring SkyBox studio? Have you played any games co-developed by them? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
