Major PlayStation Showcase For 2024 Expected in September

A State of Play Might Air This Month!

Story Highlights
  • New reports point to a PlayStation Showcase for September 2024.
  • Recent rumors hinted at a showcase for May, but it seems this month’s event is going to be a State of Play.
  • The State of Play could be announced tomorrow if it is planned for this month.

While we were all expecting a PlayStation Showcase this week, it might not be happening since Sony has not had an official announcement. Amid the confusion in the fandom, another rumor states that the PlayStation Showcase for 2024 will happen in September.

Why it matters: Sony has deviated from the trend of hosting annual showcases in recent years, so there is always more curiosity and excitement around its plans.

PlayStation State of Play 2023
This month’s PlayStation event is expected to be a State of Play instead of a detailed showcase.

The update on PlayStation’s much-anticipated event comes from the same leaker who recently accurately provided information on Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

However, insiders like Jeff Grubb and Xbox Era’s Nick have insisted that something is certainly coming before the end of May. Therefore, a PlayStation State of Play seems to be the most likely event for this month.

Back in 2022, the gaming giant skipped its annual showcase and hosted a similar State of Play around this time of the year. Since various games, including Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, are still expected from Sony partners, a new State of Play could be quite exciting.

State of Play events are usually announced a day or two before they go live. Considering May is nearly over, the announcement could come later today or tomorrow.

PlayStation
Sony has a bunch of first and third-party games in development.

If PlayStation still plans to host a showcase later in 2024, big reveals like Ghost of Tsushima 2 may be held off for this event. A showcase in late 2024 would also be the perfect event to unveil the PS5 Pro.

State of Plays don’t have a set pattern for when they air, so it’s difficult to make any guesses. However, considering how confident insiders have been on this one, the announcement could be coming soon.

In addition, Xbox is planning a June showcase event, which, on paper, will be a much bigger deal than the State of Play.
