Much like Palworld, Helldivers 2 became an unexpected hit this year. Since it became the biggest game on PlayStation in February, the co-op shooter continue to reach new heights.
One month later, several new AAA releases, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, have pulled audiences, yet Helldivers 2 continues to stay relevant. The game has now reached 200K positive reviews on Steam, boasting another big milestone.
Why it matters: Such reviews are encouraging for developers and ensure the teams stay motivated to deliver more quality content for the players.
Over on Steam, the game has had a journey of ups and downs. It initially launched to mixed reviews, but these changed to overwhelmingly positive in no time.
According to SteamDB, over 80% of 267K user reviews are positive. With only 49,814 negative reviews, Helldivers 2 has become a massive hit on the platform. Like this release, Palworld has also garnered over 200K positive reviews.
Both games are among the few to boast this milestone, and Arrowhead’s latest release continues to see record engagement daily. In terms of concurrent player count, the title is still finding over 400K players each day.
The main reason behind this success is the common goal of promoting a friendly atmosphere. Millions have joined the fight for democracy, and Arrowhead has ensured toxicity is avoided by leaving out elements like PvP.
Helldivers 2 has also struggled with balancing issues recently. Certain changes have upset the community, but Arrowhead’s clear messaging means that players have rarely found this a reason to dislike the co-op shooter.
Following recent updates, mechs are part of the co-op experience, making the fight for democracy more hectic and enjoyable.
The game’s live-service nature means that such additions will continue to arrive over the course of the year, making it worth returning to the game, even for players who have already spent hundreds of hours demolishing bugs with their friends.
