Next-Gen Game Built From Scratch For PS5!

Story Highlight
  • Ghost of Yotei is the official sequel to one of PlayStation’s biggest first-party PS4 titles.
  • It features a new female protagonist named Atsu and is set in 1603.
  • The game promises a next-generation experience powered by the PS5.

PlayStation’s latest State of Play came with a huge surprise announcement. The gaming giant has just unveiled the much-anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima just as fans had begun to lose hope.

Dubbed Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch Productions’ latest project is a brand new entry in the saga. It also introduces Atsu, a completely new protagonist.

Why it matters: Many were curious how the studio would handle the sequel after Jin Sakai’s story concluded in the first game. It seems the team has taken a very different approach than most expected.

Following the official announcement, the PlayStation Blog has shared additional details on Ghost of Yotei.

It reveals that Sucker Punch Productions’ latest title takes place 300 years after the first entry. The team sought to create yet another origin story, highlighting the idea of the ‘Ghost’ as more than just one person.

This idea led to the creation of “Atsu,” the IP’s second major protagonist. The setting is also said to be very different since Sucker Punch Productions is taking players to Mount Yotei, a peak in the heart of Ezo.

Readers might be more familiar with Hokkaido, the modern name for this region. Anyhow, the 1603 time period allows the team to offer a vastly different experience while staying true to Ghost of Tsushima’s pillars.

Fans should expect a more unpredictable approach this time around, as the PlayStation Blog points out that this time period and region stands in stark contrast to the organized samurai clans of Tsushima.

Ghost of Yotei Is Coming Next Year

Not much is currently known about Atsu, but fans can expect plenty of intense gameplay from Ghost of Yotei. Unlike Ghost of Tsushima, Atsu’s journey is built for the PS5, so it promises more visually captivating landscapes and even more gruesome combat.

This exciting information is just the beginning. Ghost of Yotei will arrive next year and promises an incredible first-party experience for PS5 owners.
