No More DLC But There's Hope For Sequel!

Story Highlight
  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21st.
  • The creator of Elden Ring has revealed that this expansion will be the first and last one.
  • He has not ruled out a potential sequel in this universe.

Elden Ring, a game that surprised everyone on launch, has sold over 23 million copies. It also went on to win Game of the Year in 2022, and FromSoftware is finally continuing the saga with more content later this year.

The DLC will be massive and feature plenty of new bosses. That being said, there is some bad news for the fans who want even more content in the future. The creator of Elden Ring has revealed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the game’s only DLC.

Why it matters: FromSoftware has typically launched multiple DLCs for games like Dark Souls 2 & 3.

Shadow of the Erdtree Will Be Almost The Same Size As Limgrave

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the genius behind Elden Ring, revealed in an interview that this expansion will be the first and last.

“Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and last DLC, and we have no plans to add more content to Elden Ring.”

-Hidetaka Miyazaki

Miyazaki has revealed that there are no plans to continue the game further. With this statement, it is safe to assume that he won’t change his mind even with demand from fandom. However, he didn’t say there wouldn’t be a sequel to the title.

Shadow of the Erdtree is not likely the end of the Elden Ring universe, even if it signals the first game’s conclusion. Miyazaki further revealed that the expansion was part of the game initially but became too massive to be included in the original release.

Bosses Revealed In The Expansion’s Trailer Are Extremely Intimidating

As such, many of the unsolved mysteries from the original title may be solved here. We might see more of Miquella, Godwin, and other mysterious characters from the lore.

It should also be noted that the difficulty of the expansion is cranked up as it will be hard even for veterans.

Also, the excitement for the DLC is so high that it encouraged Square Enix to delay the Final Fantasy 14 expansion.

Many of the characters revealed in the trailer have already won the hearts of audiences, and millions await the challenging nature of Shadow of the Erdtree. We are just as excited for the DLC, hoping to find ourselves in yet another memorable adventure in the Lands Between.
