Now That's A True Bargain!

Story Highlight
  • Chinese budget brands like TCL have disrupted the TV industry, overtaking legacy giants like LG by capturing the high demand for low-cost displays.
  • The new FFALCON (TCL sub-brand) monitor offers a 300Hz refresh rate for under $100, significantly undercutting the market.
  • Despite the low cost, the hardware includes a Fast IPS panel and wide color coverage, though it sacrifices peak HDR brightness to maintain the price point.

For years, the television market was dominated by giants like Samsung, LG, and Sony, but as smart TVs advanced, they completely changed the industry. TCL, a Chinese low-cost brand, has consistently ranked among the best-selling brands, rising to third and even second place, eventually replacing LG.

Clearly, there is strong demand for low-cost TVs from Chinese companies like this one, and the same will most certainly be true for monitors. has joined the gaming market with an extremely low price of only $88 for a 1080p 300Hz gaming monitor.

Monitor TCL FFALCON 300 Hz

If you love playing single-player games, you’ll probably prefer high resolutions such as 4K and be satisfied with 60 FPS. On the other hand, if you typically play online games with lower requirements, such as esports, you won’t need a supercomputer, but you will require a display with a high refresh rate.

In these kinds of scenarios, a Full HD resolution makes sense for higher FPS, which is why monitors like the TCL FFALCON Thunderobot Q54AD YYDS Edition, which costs only $88 and is 1080p at 300Hz, might be a game-changer for you.

FFALCON is a TCL brand that isn’t popular, but we’re confident its latest offering will be a success. With a 24.5-inch screen, it strikes an appropriate mix between size and resolution. The most impressive feature is that they managed to reach a 300Hz refresh rate for less than $100, making other brands and models more expensive and less attractive to consumers.

This TCL monitor will feature a Fast IPS panel, which means no TN. It also supports AMD FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC, albeit the brand does not indicate an integrated module. In terms of connectivity, it will provide DisplayPort 1.4 for up to 300Hz, HDMI 2.0 for up to 240Hz, and a 3.5mm headphone port.

Moreover, it is a 10-bit panel (8-bit plus FRC) with 99% sRGB and 93% DCI-P3 coverage, which is not bad considering the price. However, the brightness only reaches 400 nits (HDR400), thus we won’t be able to fully benefit from HDR. It will have 1ms GtG (gray-to-gray) latency and MPRT+ technology to improve the quality of fast-moving scenes. At only 599 yuan (76 euros), it’s unmatched.
