Story Highlight

Stellar Blade was all the rage in the gaming industry last month after it launched to shining reviews and praise for its polish.

While PlayStation and Shift Up have yet to comment on its success in terms of total sales, the latter’s latest financial report states that initial sales have performed well beyond expectations.

Why it matters: The impressive reviews, fan reception, and sales could pave the path for a Stellar Blade sequel in the future.

Stellar Blade Was Surrounded By Controversy Before And After Release

The studio expects sales to increase steadily after the initial release as it looks toward a promising future in AAA gaming.

According to Shift Up, Stellar Blade’s sales have allowed the team to bolster its AAA development efforts further. The financial report also provides hope for a PC version and sequel. While neither is confirmed yet, Shift Up has begun considering both options.

The team is set to expand and begin investing in more projects next year. Moreover, the studio has confirmed Project Codename Witches, a new game that will take up most of its attention moving forward.

As for Stellar Blade, the game is still being updated with new features. The team is currently working on a Boss Rush mode and Photo mode as they aim to refine the experience to perfection.

Stellar Blade has proven to be quite popular worldwide, but Japanese audiences, in particular, seem to have taken a liking to this release. Data from this market suggests that nearly 100K copies have been sold in Japan alone as physical discs, likely bringing the game closer to the 1 million mark.

While Shift Up has made no such announcements, it is also possible that 1 million sales have already been achieved. Moving forward, the title seems to have enough potential to be converted into a major PlayStation franchise.
