- Stellar Blade has hit a concurrent peak of 168K players on Steam, the highest amount for a PlayStation PC port.
- The game surpassed God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man to achieve this record.
- A sequel to the game has been confirmed.
Since its release last year, Stellar Blade has become a fan favorite in the gaming world, achieving financial success for Shift Up and garnering critical acclaim along the way. Hence, it was no surprise when the PC release of the RPG was met with high anticipation from fans.
Stellar Blade’s PC port had to overcome issues such as region locking. Still, it finally launched on June 11th without any problems and achieved a record-breaking total of concurrent players for a PlayStation title on Steam.
Why it matters: Stellar Blade achieving these numbers without a region lock shows how PlayStation should follow this strategy with future releases.

After its release on Steam, Stellar Blade has peaked at 168K concurrent players on the platform, the highest number of any PlayStation title on PC. In addition, the game has also attracted more players than behemoths like God of War, The Last of Us, and Marvel Spider-Man.
The Shift Up title beat the highly acclaimed Ghost of Tshusima, which peaked at 77K users, to attain this position. Now, Stellar Blade has nearly double the player count peak of Ghost of Tsushima, which is crazy.
To achieve this success, however, Stellar Blade’s PC port has had to navigate a lot of controversy, including the infamous region lock, which affected 132 countries. But PlayStation worked with Shift Up to resolve this issue, which is partly the reason the game has performed so much better than other PlayStation titles.

Overall, even issues like Denuvo did not affect the RPG’s performance, with the game running better with it, and Stellar Blade has matched Shift Up’s expectations for the PC port.
The IP has also made Shift Up a force to be reckoned with, generating significant revenue and allowing the developer to focus on new IPs. With a sequel already in the works, Stellar Blade isn’t going away anytime soon.
