PC Gaming Is Bigger & Better Than Ever!

Story Highlight
  • Steam has now surpassed 40 million concurrent users.
  • This surge is due to recent popular releases like Monster Hunter Wilds and more.
  • Steam remains PC gamers’ number 1 choice when it comes to gaming.

Steam has remained the top priority for PC gamers when it comes to choosing their go-to platform. The store is massive and at the forefront of PC gaming overall.

Since its debut, the platform has only grown with the addition of handheld consoles and other devices. Steam just set a new record today, with 40 million concurrent users for the first time in history.

Why it matters: Steam’s surpassing such a milestone is a huge accomplishment for PC gaming, which is an ever-growing platform.

While the 40 Million mark has been quite close to breaking over the past few days, the record was broken today with a peak of 40,274,929 players.

The student surge may be due to recent releases like Monster Hunter Wild, which alone has a peak of over 1.3 million concurrent players. Steam currently has 132 million monthly active users, and this number is only increasing.

As of 2019, it was reported that Steam had over a billion registered users, which may include multiple accounts from the same person and bots. Nevertheless, the registered user number is speculated to have surpassed massively from that number.

No gaming platform has yet to come closer to Steam. Despite being 250X bigger in scale, Amazon still couldn’t dethrone the gaming platform in a struggle that lasted more than 15 years.
