PlayStation is one of the biggest names in the gaming industry. The brand has become synonymous with high-quality, first-party AAA games in the last few years, and it seems like this trend will continue for years to come with upcoming games. While PlayStation is already incredibly successful, it looks like the brand is now looking to innovate in new ways instead of sticking to the tried and true approach of high-quality first-party titles.

We have already discussed rumors regarding PlayStation’s upcoming acquisition. The forthcoming acquisition is rumored to be bigger than Kojima Productions. Moreover, Sony is also looking to expand further into the Chinese games market. This seems to be part of a greater plan to grow the PlayStation brand.

It was already revealed that Sony is entering the mobile gaming market, but recently published job listings from PlayStation seem to suggest that the company is making a big push to break into Mobile Gaming. The first job listing is for the Mobile QA Project Lead position at PlayStation Global in the United Kingdom. The listing says,

“We are looking for someone with previous experience performing and coordinating QA activities on mobile platforms (Android & iOS) to join our team. You’ll bring your experience and skills in the mobile space to our team and in return, you’ll have the opportunity to work on the biggest and best games.”

The listing emphasizes “Excellent Mobile Games Testing Knowledge.” PlayStation’s franchises are extremely popular, and the mobile market could bring in a whole new audience to these IPs. While it would be tough to bring console games to a mobile platform, PlayStation has also had extensive experience with handhelds consoles in the past, which could be helpful in this scenario.

The second job listing is for the Strategic Finance Manager, Mobile Games position at PlayStation Global in the United States. This listing states,

“The Finance Manager will be a finance business partner to PlayStation Mobile organization and responsible for strategic financial work supporting PlayStation expansion into mobile platform.

One of the responsibilities in the listing mentions the retention and monetization strategies for the mobiles games. The mobile platform provides the perfect opportunity for quality titles that can easily be monetized. We have already seen the success of free-to-play titles like Fortnite and Call Of Duty: Mobile that rely on monetizing cosmetic items. These games are free to play in nature and utilize various cosmetic customizations to make a profit. Perhaps, PlayStation could be looking to experiment with a similar model on the platform.

PlayStation is now looking stronger than ever. The brand appears to be focused on covering all aspects of the gaming industry. Sony could tap into a brand new player base focusing on mobile gaming. PlayStation could very well innovate and completely change the mobile gaming genre. This has us excited, and we are certainly looking forward to what Sony offers.
