Yet Another Unreal Engine 5 Game With Optimization Issues!

Story Highlight
  • Multiple RTX 5090 users on Steam have complained that Silent Hill f is crashing for them.
  • A bug seems to be causing the crash, and only fixes when graphics are dialed down.
  • It is yet another instance of an Unreal Engine 5 game with performance issues.

Silent Hill f just launched into early access, and it’s already being called the best game in the franchise. However, as with most modern releases, Konami’s latest game is also encountering some optimization problems in early access.

According to multiple Nvidia Geforce RTX 5090 users, the game is crashing for them, making it almost unplayable. Users report that once the first cutscene starts, the game crashes and shuts down for them.

Why it matters: Silent Hill f seems to be mostly trouble-free free but this one bug is massive as it makes it unplayable; however, it also retains the same Unreal Engine 5 issues as seen with previous titles.

Silent Hill f crashing at launch for RTX 5090 users

A user took to the Steam discussions to point out that Silent Hill f is crashing for them on their RTX 5090 GPU. This has turned into a widespread issue as multiple other users also verified the statement, as they faced the issue as well.

While some can access the early stages of the game, for others, it crashes right at launch. The only fix has been to dial down the graphics quite a lot, but that presents a huge graphical fidelity loss, which is terrible for a high-end GPU.

This will undoubtedly be fixed through a patch at full release, but it’s frustrating for the early access users. Another reason could be that Nvidia is yet to launch game-ready drivers for Silent Hill f as it’s still in early access.

Nonetheless, we are seeing more and more performance issues with the new title based on Unreal Engine 5. A similar trend was also observed for Metal Gear Solid Remake, and this is the case with most games developed using the tech.
