Resident Evil is amongst the best-selling Capcom franchises of all time, and the most influential horror franchise in the industry, so it is no surprise that it sells well. However, one of its titles has achieved a massive record.
According to the company’s latest financial report, Resident Evil 7 has sold over 1 million units in this fiscal year. More importantly, it is the 8th year in a row it has crossed a million units.
Why it matters: Resident Evil 7 marked a significant shift in the franchise, becoming more horror-focused than action-oriented, and most fans appreciated the change, as evident from the sales.

Capcom released its fiscal report, revealing sales numbers for its games. Resident Evil 7 has sold around 1.15 million units this year, with this being its 8th consecutive year to do so, showing its huge popularity.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released in 2017 and introduced us to Ethan Winters and his family. The title was a tonal shift in the series, and fans really liked it. It also carried over to Resident Evil 8: Village.

Interestingly, it is also among the top 4 best-selling games for Capcom this year, and is only behind Resident Evil 2 in lifetime sales. However, the sales are expected to increase even more in the next year.
Capcom has announced Resident Evil 7 for Switch 2 will release on February 27, 2026. This means it will be available now on almost every platform, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Switch, and iOS.
