- Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 Remake has been its most successful recent release.
- After becoming the best-selling entry in this IP, the game recently reached 13.9 million in sales.
- Games like Resident Evil Village also reached new milestones recently after selling 10 million copies.
Capcom continues to excel in the gaming industry, with one hit after another. Last year, the studio launched high-impact titles like Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. However, its back catalog continues to perform well.
While Resident Evil Village recently reached a new sales milestone, Capcom has confirmed a similar achievement for Resident Evil 2 Remake. According to the studio, this entry has sold nearly 14 million units.
Why it matters: Capcom has the most polished remakes in the industry, so it deserves all the success coming its way.
Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the original from 1998 and was released in 2019. Capcom remade the game using the latest RE engine, which is also used in Resident Evil 7.
Capcom took its time with this game since it was planned for 2015; however, the extra time worked for the team, and they raised the bar for remakes. According to the studio, this effort has culminated in 13.9 million sales today.
Since Resident Evil 2, Capcom has remade many games. While some might consider Resident Evil 4 to be the superior remake, its faithful recreation would not be possible without everything the team achieved in 2019.
The studio also reiterates that Resident Evil 2 Remake remains the IP’s best-selling title. With new consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, perhaps the studio will find even more sales with future ports of this remake.
Nevertheless, following the successful streak of remakes, Capcom is considering more remakes. Reports suggest that Resident Evil Code Veronica is the next remake to be released.
Apart from the remakes, Capcom is also looking for fresh takes with sequels, so Resident Evil 9 is in the pipeline and is said to be slated for a late 2025 release.
