Mortal Kombat Creator Teases Reveal For This Week

Prepare For Mortal Kombat!

The most recent game in the Mortal Kombat franchise is Mortal Kombat 11, which was released back in 2019. The game has made more than $500 million in profit, and the developer is now gearing up for a new installment.

Following the anticipation, the Mortal Kombat creator, Ed Boon himself, has teased that a reveal may be coming this week.

Why it matters: NetherRealm Studios has already teased Mortal Kombat 12 before, and rumors have previously claimed that the game would be officially revealed in May.

He recently tweeted, stating:

“This week should be fun.”

Since Ed Boon is known for occasionally trolling, some people were quick to label it a troll, but given the circumstances, it might not be a troll since many have long been anticipating more details on Mortal Kombat.

Many have speculated the game would be revealed at the heavily rumored PlayStation showcase, which is expected to happen soon. The announcement for the showcase could come this week, so Ed Boon could be pointing at this event.

On the other hand, NetherRealm Studios could also do a completely separate event for Mortal Kombat, as they have previously done with Mortal Kombat 11. This is also possible since Mortal Kombat has an incredibly large fanbase.

The next game is reportedly called Mortal Kombat 1, serving as a reboot. It would not be the first time Mortal Kombat has been rebooted, as the series was last rebooted in 2011.

Mortal Kombat 1 is expected to release in September 2023 for the current-gen consoles, PC and Nintendo Switch. Moreover, guest characters like Conan The Barbarian, Homelander, and Peacemaker are also rumored for Mortal Kombat 1.
