  • Analysts praise Marvel’s Wolverine for next-gen graphics and more mature themes.
  • They state that the visuals and shaders are a huge improvement from Spider-Man 2.
  • Some shortcomings from the trailer will likely be fixed as the title is still a year away.

Marvel’s Wolverine recently got an in-depth trailer showcasing what Insomniac has cooked up after years of waiting. Most fans have praised the trailer, stating that the wait was worth it, and even the analysts are quite impressed.

Analysts conclude that Marvel’s Wolverine will be truly impressive on the PS5, thanks to its mature themes and next-gen graphics. However, they would’ve preferred if the trailer had a bit more gameplay instead of cutscenes.

Why it matters: Insomniac’s next superhero release is set to take things to a whole new level with gory gameplay. Experts say that the visuals are also a significant improvement over Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the studio’s previous release.

Digital Foundry analysts have praised Wolverine and talked in detail about the improvements. They state that the lifelike shaders on the title are a big improvement over Spider-Man, and they also detected ray-traced reflections.

They also express their happiness with Insomniac going with mature themes like blood, gore, dismemberment, and more, which is the first from the studio. Overall, everything looks to be quite impressive visually.

The footage was likely captured on a PS5 Pro running at 30 FPS ‘Quality Mode’, therefore, the ray-tracing. However, it still seems to be using the current PSSR version instead of the upcoming version based on FSR4.

Analysts also praised Insomniac’s proprietary engine in a world plagued with Unreal Engine 5 issues. The trailer did show some shortcomings that can be easily fixed, considering it is still almost a year away from release.
