Censorship has become a major issue in the gaming industry, with the majority being strongly opposed to it. Many developers, including Capcom (Resident Evil is still safe), have been involved in such acts, and it just angers the fandom. 

On many occasions, gamers have condemned the act of censorship, but developers seem not to listen, apparently due to a political agenda that has also infiltrated video games. Despite many following this trend, the game designer of Lollipop Chainsaw has spoken out against censorship, arguing that it ruins the game. 

Why it matters: Censorship of video games is never welcomed, and perhaps only a small, very small portion of the community, namely the modern audience, prefers them. So, it doesn’t make sense to censor the games just for a tiny fragment of gamers who may not even play them.

Yoshimi Yasuda, the game designer of Lollipop Chainsaw, has spoken against censoring video games in a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter. He explained how the team committed to remaking the game without censoring anything, not just because of the fandom, but because the original game had that look. 

Censoring any of these elements would damage the very core of the work we set out to create, and that is something I can never accept.

If a game wasn’t planned to be censored when it was revealed to the public, then the developers should never allow anyone to force them to censor their video games before the release. The same goes for the remakes.

However, Capcom fails to understand this and censored the remaster of Onimusha 2, which, according to reports, occurred because the company’s localisation team in Japan has been staffed by Western activists. The developer didn’t listen to the fandom, and the game flopped very hard.

The developers and publishers should now be aware that the fandom is opposed to censorship, and they are the primary audience of the game
