Insider Claims Gears 6 Is Reportedly In Development

Two Small Projects Are Now Cancelled To Focus On Gears 6!

During Game Mess Mornings show, Jeff Grub claimed that Xbox’s Canadian Studio is full steam ahead on Gears 6. Grubb has made many claims in the past, and he is surely reliable.

Grubb’s claims seem to have some backing, as Coalition said in May 2021 that it was preparing to move on to make games using Unreal Engine 5. After that, one of the studio’s level designers claimed in the LinkedIn profile that they were working on a new IP. So, it is likely that the new IP they were talking about is Gears 6.

In the Game Mess Morning show, Grub also claimed that Coalition was working on two more projects which are now canceled, so now their main focus is perhaps to develop Gears 6. He said:

“ They have canceled that smaller project, as well as another project, so there have been two games canceled there. This was all reflected in the layoffs that happened at Microsoft, which did hit The Coalition a little bit.

The studio is now going to move on fully to Gears 6. I say now, it has likely moved on to Gears 6 in full over the course of the last year, but definitely, that will be their next game.”

Grubb seemed confident in his claim, as many things are pointing toward the development of Gears 6. One is Netflix’s announcement of partnering with Coalition to release several Gear of War projects, including a live-action film.

Gears of War is one of the most successful franchises of Microsoft, as it sold over 22 million units worldwide, so it is fair to believe that the next title is in development.

According to Grubb, the developers have been working on the game since last year, so it will likely be their next game. Also, a job posting confirmed that Gears of War 6 is under development.

There is no confirmation from Coalition whether they are working on the title as they have not yet announced the cancellation of the two projects. So, the company might reveal some information soon that will back up Grubb’s claim. Moreover, it is worth noting that some images of Gears of War 6 were leaked online.
