Impressive For An Indie Game!

Story Highlight
  • Hollow Knight Silksong surprised everyone by attracting nearly 600,000 players at launch.
  • This is extremely impressive for an indie game, and such dominance is almost unheard of.
  • That said, it has been nearly 10 days since the title was released, and it is still sitting at the second position on Steam’s best sellers list, which is truly remarkable.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, after years of hype and anticipation, was recently released. The game launched with nearly 600,000 players on Steam, a remarkable achievement for an indie title.

It’s been so well-received that many fans believe the $20 price tag feels like underpaying for the experience, and some developers worry it may set an unrealistic pricing standard for the industry.

According to reports, the game sold over 5 million copies within the first three days of launch. Even more impressive, it continues to dominate Steam’s best sellers list more than a week after release.

Why it matters: It’s rare for a game, especially an indie one, to maintain such strong momentum well beyond its launch window.

As you can see in the image above, Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in second place on Steam’s best sellers list, almost 10 days after launch.

It is just behind Borderlands 4, which makes sense given the game has just been released. So it is expected to stay at number one for a little while longer.

Regarding Silksong, it is still dominating mainly because of the hype, as many new players, especially Soulslike fans, were attracted to it and gave it a shot.

Many of these new players jumped on the hype train without experiencing the first game in the series, which led them to find Silksong quite challenging, especially in the early sections. This resulted in a wave of negative reviews.

The developer has since addressed the feedback and made the early-game difficulty more accessible for newcomers or those who were having trouble.

Nonetheless, it’s impressive for an indie game to keep dominating Steam’s best sellers list for nearly 10 days.
