Big Xbox First-Party Game Almost Completed!

Following the release of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, developer Ninja Theory was acquired by Xbox. The studio quickly began work on Hellblade 2, and the game has become a highly anticipated first-party title for Xbox since then.

While the game was officially announced in 2019, it has not been released yet. However, Ninja Theory shared new information about the game a few months ago, including a new story trailer and a 2024 release window.

A recent tweet from the studio also hints that Hellblade 2 is now fully playable from start to finish.

Why it matters: The game being fully playable would ensure that it is able to meet its 2024 release window, joining Microsoft’s first-party lineup for the next year.

A few days ago, Ninja Theory tweeted an image of the entire development team gathering to play its next game.

While the image does not show Hellblade 2, the studio has been mostly focused on the latest Hellblade title for several years, and other games like Project Mara are unlikely to be much further along in development. The studio tweeted:

“Nothing beats getting everyone together to play through the game.”

Ninja Theory’s statement and the fact that the entire team is gathered to play the game suggest that Hellblade 2 has come far enough to be played all the way through.

As stated earlier, the game has been in development for several years. Hellblade 2 also received an extensive story trailer focusing on Senua a few months ago, showcasing impressive visuals and an immersive atmosphere the franchise has become well known for.

Following the tweet, fans have speculated that an announcement is on the way.

While Ninja Theory did not have a massive presence at Gamescom last month, fans believe that the studio may reveal more information at The Game Awards 2023 in December.

Previously, Microsoft used this occasion to announce the game in 2019, so the gaming giant may be looking to return with another announcement several years later.

Similar to other Xbox games, Hellblade 2 will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

Fans can expect the game to deliver incredible immersion and a narrative that deals with psychological elements while delivering incredible visuals using the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.
