Hellblade 2 is just over a month away, and reports about the game continue to pour in. The title uses the full extent of Unreal Engine 5 to deliver graphics that look incomparable to everything we’ve seen so far.
According to analysts, it has raised the bar for Unreal Engine 5 games.
Why it matters: Ninja Theory has been marketing the game as a cinematic experience, and analysts seem to share the same opinion.
Ninja Theory has released b-roll footage that shows how the game’s makeup and visuals pan out. We see that they have used industry-leading tech and put their heart and soul into the development of the sequel.
According to Digital Foundry, the sequel is the most visually ambitious Unreal Engine 5 game we’ve seen so far. Ninja Theory’s facial rendering seems head and shoulders above anything in the industry, making for photorealistic models.
In my book, this could be the very best looking Unreal Engine 5 title.

Animations play a vital role in the experience. The developers have created detailed animations with a focus on motion capture and performance. Post-processing effects like motion blur are also used meticulously to achieve a cinematic look.
Unreal Engine 5 features like Nanite add to the detailed environments. For instance, the ground seems to be full of detail. All of this contributes to a visual powerhouse from Xbox and Ninja Theory.
Once Lumen is added to the mix, Ninja Theory’s recent footage rarely fails to impress. The analyst even states that Hellblade 2 currently looks better than its 2021 gameplay footage.
Hellblade 2 is shaping up to be a sequel that will best its predecessor in every way. The overall experience looks like a generational leap, addressing the shortcomings of the original.
However, this means that the game will be very demanding for the Xbox Series X. Therefore, it will be capped at 30FPS and limited to a few hours for the best production values.
