Last year, GTA 6 emerged on the internet after several years of waiting. However, this happened due to a leak, which surprised Rockstar Games and the entire industry.
The leak showed various gameplay clips from different parts of the game, revealing many details about the next Grand Theft Auto title. Several months after the leak, a report provides a new update on the hacker responsible.
According to Reuters, Arion Kurtaj is the culprit behind the hacking incident but will not appear in court for trial.
Why it matters: The GTA 6 leak has become one of the biggest and most controversial leaks in recent years. Rockstar Games is also known to take leaks very seriously, so the developer was expected to take strict action against the hacker.
According to the report, Arion Kurtaj previously targeted Uber and Revolut. This led to nearly $3 million in damage to Uber. Following this incident, he turned to Rockstar Games and threatened to leak the game’s source code.
However, Arion Kurtaj has been assessed by psychiatrists, and they have concluded that he is not fit for trial. As such, the 18-year-old will not appear in court, with the jury looking to decide if he is to blame for the hacking incidents.
Additionally, another unnamed 17-year-old is blamed for being involved in the incident. The report states both culprits were also involved in hacking Nvidia last year.
Nearly a year after the hacking incident, Rockstar Games is yet to reveal GTA 6 officially. While a new statement from Take-Two hints at a potential release target as early as 2024, the game may not be announced this year.
In the meantime, recent reports claim that the studio may be working on a remaster for Red Dead Redemption to keep players busy as they look forward to the next Grand Theft Auto release.
