GTA 6: An Extended Look has finally been showcased to the entire world, and it seems safe to say that Rockstar Games has more than lived up to expectations.
Not only does GTA 6 appear to be pushing the series forward through its simulation and gameplay, but the game appears to be in a league of its own when looking at visuals alone. As more information continues showing up regarding the title, GTA 6 is now confirmed to be running at 4K 30FPS on base PS5.
Why it matters: Many already predicted the game would skip 60FPS, and today’s extended look via Netflix confirmed that this is indeed the case.
As reported on Twitter, content creators were shown GTA 6 running at 4K 30FPS in July as part of Rockstar Games’ previews. The recent footage from Netflix also seconded this, with the game aiming for 30FPS.
Do note that this target resolution and frame rate point to base PS5 performance, but the PS5 Pro is also expected to run at a similar 30FPS due to GTA 6’s CPU-intensive nature, something that was clearly on display in today’s footage.
As for the 4K resolution, it’s unconfirmed whether this is the native resolution or upscaled 4K, but the latter is more likely given the sheer visual quality shown by Rockstar Games so far.
All in all, Rockstar Games appears to be pushing the limits of what Sony and Microsoft’s latest consoles can do. Although some may be disappointed by the 30FPS gameplay, the trade-offs appear well worth the limited frame-rate.
