God of War Ragnarok: Bugs Make PS5 Version Look Better Than PC With RTX 4090

PC Version Has Tessellation And Several Other Issues!

Story Highlight
  • The God of War: Ragnarok PC port has some bugs that make the PS5 version look better than PC.
  • The visual fidelity at 4K native resolution on PS5 is better than that on a PC with RTX 4090.
  • This is due to some bugs and an issue with the Tessellation that leads to worse graphics in certain areas.

God of War: Ragnarok is the latest PlayStation port on PC. This is an excellent port that performs great on most modern GPUs. However, a couple of bugs make the PS5 version of the game look better than a PC using the RTX 4090.

Why it matters: The visual fidelity at 4K native for the PS5 is the same as that of an RTX 4090 PC. But, some missing effects, work, details, and bugs with the Tessellation are leading to less impressive visuals in certain areas of the game.

Digital Foundry has released a new comparison video comparing the PC port to the PS5 version. The PS5’s quality mode is basically 4K at Ultra settings on a PC. So, in theory, the quality should be very similar, but unfortunately, it isn’t

While the PC version looks great in most areas, in certain places, it has Tessellation bugs, making the quality look significantly worse than the PS5’s quality mode. For context, there is a dream sequence in the game where you go through a forest. The area has a lot more detail on the PS5 compared to the PC

Furthermore, there are issues with some specific areas, too. In the realm travel area, the PC version faces some stutters due to bugs. Also, the animations of the portal that lets you travel through the realm look jittery on PC.

This is rather strange as PC ports usually offer much better quality than the PS5. The first God of War game, too, looked a lot better on the PC.

The bugs can be ironed out with software updates, but the smoothness it offers is next to none. For most recommended GPUs, you are going to have a very smooth experience. DF has even claimed it is one of the smoothest PC ports they’ve seen so far.
