Game Pass Price Hike Inevitable Following Recent Changes From Xbox!

Story Highlight
  • Following increased prices for consoles and first-party games, Xbox is potentially gearing up to increase Game Pass costs.
  • PS Plus already saw a price hike recently, so it wouldn’t be a surprise for Xbox to do the same.
  • This would be the second time Game Pass has seen an increase in price in less than a year.

In the face of economic turmoil and soaring video game development costs, the industry is spiralling downward as gaming becomes increasingly expensive.

Just recently, Xbox announced a major price hike, with first-party games now costing $80. The Xbox Series S|X consoles have also increased in price, with the Series X now costing more than a PS5. Amid the chaos, an insider suggests that gamers should also brace themselves for a Game Pass price hike.

Why it matters: The biggest reason Game Pass is so successful is its excellent value. For a marginal cost, gamers can have access to hundreds of AAA games. However, an increase in price could potentially force users to reconsider whether they should proceed with the subscription.

Insider’s Sassy Remark On No Game Price Changes, For Now || Resetera

On ResetEra, while discussing the price hike for the console and first-party games, one user mentioned that Game Pass didn’t see any change in its prices. However, Shinobi602, a well-known insider, replied with a sarcastic remark, implying that Xbox may have more disappointing news to announce soon.

PlayStation also recently announced that it will be bumping up PS Plus costs for 15 countries. Hence, it wouldn’t be surprising if Xbox decides to follow suit. This would be the second price hike for Game Pass in just under a year.

The last time prices for the subscription service went up was in September 2024.
