All-Time High After Major Fortnite Resurgence!

Story Highlights
  • Epic Games has brought back the classic Fortnite map and various older weapons in a new event.
  • This event has resulted in 6 million concurrent players for the battle royal.
  • The 6 million figure is an all-time high for Fortnite.

Fortnite needs no introduction. Having dominated battle royal games for many years, this free-to-play shooter practically inspired every other developer to pursue a free-to-play model of its own.

While the title found success due to its unique building mechanic early on, Epic Games moved away from these systems in recent years. The developer took this game in a new direction after removing core mechanics like building and introducing different weapons.

However, these mechanics have gradually returned to the game, and the latest update has marked the biggest return to form. Epic Games has brought back the original map that made this title so popular, reaching millions of players after the update.

Why it matters: Fortnite dwindled in popularity a bit after the height of its success in past years, but such measures appear to be working in bringing millions of players back to the game.

Fortnite Concurrent Players

Since the latest update has gone live, Fortnite has reached over 6 million concurrent players. This is a massive number for a game that initially blew up as early as 2018.

At the time of writing, over 2.1 million players are enjoying fond memories of the best period of Epic Games’ battle royal. It is also important to note that this new figure is an all-time high for the game.

6 million players have tried the battle royal due to Fortnite OG. This event not only brings back the classic map from the game’s prime but introduces several classic weapons like the grappler and pump shotgun.

Other fun additions like the shopping kart and all-terrain kart have been unvaulted for players to enjoy. Iconic locations like Tilted Towers are also part of the map for those looking to revisit fond memories of the game.

Fortnite OG is also accompanied by the OG Pass. Although this Battle Pass comes with just 50 tiers, the nostalgia involved with revisiting the classic map should ensure players have a great time while grinding for these items.

Evidently, new and returning players have had a blast with this event so far. However, like all good things, it will eventually come to an end.

Fortnite OG is scheduled to end on 2 December, but Epic Games is known for carefully listening to community feedback. Therefore, it would not be surprising to see an extension for the event or a permanent new mode for those looking to revisit the nostalgic experience.
