The Final Fantasy franchise has a big year ahead of it with a lot of its recent mainline releases about to debut on Xbox according to credible rumors. And, if rumors are true, a new remake might be joining hands with the two titles to strengthen the Final Fantasy lineup further.
Why it matters: A remake of Final Fantasy 9 has been demanded heavily by fans, so to finally have a potential release window is a positive sign and could lead to an official announcement.

According to insider NateTheHate, the Final Fantasy 9 remake is in “active development” at Square Enix right now. However, fans will have to wait to play the title as it isn’t expected to launch this year.
NateTheHate stated on X that the Final Fantasy 9 remake could possibly be released next year, but nothing is certain as of now. Square Enix hasn’t officially announced the game but was among the titles listed in the notorious Nvidia GeForce leak back in 2021.
Many insiders have historically claimed that the title is real and NateTheHate also has a good reputation to back up his claims. Furthermore, Square Enix also has other remasters and remakes in the franchise currently in development according to several reports.
A Final Fantasy 15 remaster is supposedly in the works if rumors are to be believed. In addition, the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 remake saga will also launch in a few years after Rebirth came out in 2024 for the PS5.
With Square Enix planning to bring all future titles in the franchise to Xbox and leaving PS exclusivity behind, there is every chance this upcoming remake will release day and date on both consoles. However, take this rumor with a grain of salt, as nothing is official yet.
