Final Fantasy is one of the gaming franchises with the longest-running history. Dating back to 1987, the JRPG series has seen countless entries spanning several generations and shows signs of stopping anytime soon.

Square Enix has announced that the Final Fantasy franchise has sold over 200 million units to date. Moreover, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has surpassed the 5 million unit sale mark, both impressive achievements.

Why it matters: Final Fantasy has now cemented itself alongside the greatest video game franchises by reaching this incredible achievement.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has sold an additional two million copies since September 2023, when Square Enix announced that the title had sold three million units.

However, not all games in the franchise are enjoying great sales. Final Fantasy 16 has only sold 500K copies since its launch week, totaling 3.5 million sales.

Still, the series is speculated to have sold 5 million copies across all entries in the last 6 months without a new release.

The Franchise Is Now Headed Towards Xbox

With the franchise finally headed towards Xbox in the future, it is expected to boom even further. Still, it’s quite impressive to have this many sales even after major exclusivity towards consoles with PC ports now just being recently released.
