Elden Ring DLC Still A Bit Far From Release, Says FromSoftware

Might Not Launch In Early 2024!

Story Highlights
  • The Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, was announced back on 28 February, but FromSoftware has not provided any updates since then.
  • Fans had high hopes that the DLC would be nearing completion, with a release date in early 2024.
  • However, FromSoftware claims the expansion will not be released anytime soon.

FromSoftware has found great success with its formula of Souls games in the industry. The studio’s latest offering, Elden Ring, might be the best representation of this formula, becoming the Game of the Year in 2022.

An expansion for the game was also announced in early 2023, but fans are still eagerly waiting for a new update on Shadow of the Erdtree. Speaking in an interview, the FromSoftware producer has told fans to remain a bit more patient.

According to him, the DLC is still a little ways off from release.

Why it matters: FromSoftware has an excellent track record with past DLC projects, so the excitement for Shadow of the Erdtree is very high.

The producer described that the development of the expansion was going smoothly, but he did not have any additional information to share. Yasuhiro Kitao said:

“It’s still a little ways off, but progress is going well.”

We recently reported that Shadow of the Erdtree would be released in February 2024. While FromSoftware did not confirm or deny an early 2024 launch, the studio might require a bit more time to polish the expansion.

According to the producer, fans can expect new areas to explore, enemies to beat, and bosses to overcome in the expansion. This is typical of FromSoftware DLCs, but we believe this expansion will be much larger than the rest since it was rumored to combine two DLCs.

The producer pointed to Bloodborne, in particular, which had the most content-rich DLC among past FromSoftware games. Therefore, this is also expected to be the case for Elden Ring’s expansion.

Elden Ring

Shadow of the Erdtree reportedly offers around 20 hours of content. This would make it FromSoftware’s biggest DLC to date and nearly half as large as the base game.

The Game Awards are just a week away. With FromSoftware using this event to reveal games like Armored Core 6 in the past, we expect the studio to finally break its silence about Shadow of the Erdtree at this show.
