The Title Began Development In 2023!

Story Highlight
  • EA has reportedly canceled the Black Panther game, 2 years after the development began.
  • It has also closed Cliffhanger Studios, which was especially created for the game in 2023.
  • More layoffs have also been made in the mobile department and central teams.

Black Panther is among the most prominent Marvel characters since his debut in the MCU in 2016. So, when EA revealed that it is specifically opening a studio to work on the Black Panther game in 2023, fans were hyped for it.

Almost two years later, the company has canceled the Black Panther game and closed the studio that had been working on the project, resulting in several layoffs.

Why it matters: Ever since its announcement, no further details had been revealed about the title, due to which fans were already skeptical. Now, this report has confirmed their worst fears.

EA has officially cancelled its Black Panther game

According to a report from IGN, EA sent an email to its staff announcing that the company is making several changes to sharpen its focus and put its creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.

These decisions are hard, they affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with.

EA isn’t only canceling Black Panther and closing Cliffhanger, it is also laying off staff from its mobile and central teams. While the company hasn’t confirmed the number, IGN says that the number is less than 300.

EA has also closed the studio and laid off some of the other staff as well

However, the gaming giants have announced that they’ll try to accommodate the laid-off staff in other departments of the company, so at least that’s a good sign, but for fans waiting on the Black Panther game, it’s bad news.

Nonetheless, there is still Marvel 1943: Hydra to look forward to. While it won’t have T’Challa as the Black Panther, it’s still somewhat of a comfort that we will be getting the character in some form.
