Cyberpunk 2077 Generated Over $750 Million In Revenue After 2023 Comeback

Cyberpunk 2077 is Nearly A Billion Dollar Franchise!

Story Highlights
  • Cyberpunk 2077 has generated over $750 million when combined with its expansion.
  • The game saw major revenue spikes after it was fixed and Phatom Liberty launched.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 is heading towards a probable billion-dollar revenue if sales are maintained.

Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced in 2012, promising a revolutionary title. The game launched eight years later, in 2020, and it was nothing short of a disaster. It was flawed and plagued by bugs, making it almost unplayable.

Despite the broken launch, the game seems to have sold well, according to CDPR. So far, Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty expansion have achieved a revenue of $750 million.

Why it matters: The RPG was a huge investment. In fact, it is one of the most expensive video games of all time, standing at a mammoth budget of over $400 million. So, it’s good to see the game making the most out of it.

Cyberpunk 2077 Revenue Has Only Gone Up Since 2021

The first-year sales were quite impressive, but there was a significant dip in the two years that followed. Cyberpunk 2077 then saw a massive resurgence in 2023, where it hit almost the same amount of revenue in the year as it did in the last two years combined.

This was around the time when its redemption arc began. In 2023, CDPR launched the 2.0 patch along with the DLC Phantom Liberty. The update and DLC made it look like the title we were all excited about when it was announced.

Following this update, CDPR saw $206 million in revenue last year. However, the game has not slowed down since then and could be on its way to joining the various billion-dollar IPs of the industry.

While the game generated a lot of revenue in 2020, many were reluctant to buy it due to the issues that impacted sales in 2021. But now Cyberpunk 2077 is as good as ever, with many dubbing it a Game of The Year contender in its current state.

For those who have yet to jump in, CDPR has just offered a free five-hour trial for console players till March 31st. The studio is also working on its sequel alongside its much anticipated Witcher 3 sequel.
