Cyberpunk 2077 Set To Receive Live Action Adaptation

Could Be The Blade Runner Successor We Wanted!

Cyberpunk 2077 has already seen success outside the gaming industry. Last year, CD Projekt RED worked with Studio Trigger to bring Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an extremely well-received anime adaptation of the franchise.

Since then, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached new heights. A massive update and Phantom Liberty have kept the game relevant in the public’s eyes, taking it to the top of Steam’s best-sellers.

This success has encouraged the studio to expand the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. As part of this goal, CD Projekt RED has announced a live-action project.

Why it matters: Recent films based on Super Mario and Sonic have shown that the gaming industry is capable of producing solid adaptations despite the history of such projects.

The project has been announced as part of the developer’s investor’s presentation, confirming that CD Projekt RED will collaborate with Anonymous Content to bring the series to life.

Anonymous Content has been behind massive TV Shows like True Detective and Mr Robot in addition to award-winning films including The Revenant and Spotlight. Therefore, the adaptation has a lot of potential from the beginning.

CDPR confirmed that the project is in the early stages of development, and the studio is looking for a screenwriter to revitalize Cyberpunk 2077 from a whole new perspective.

Looking at the lore of CD Projekt RED’s universe, we find this announcement very exciting.

Films like Blade Runner 2049 have already shown that the setting lends itself particularly well to the cinematic nature of television, allowing directors to use the setting for jaw-dropping visuals.

In addition to visuals, Cyberpunk 2077 has no shortage of interesting stories and characters, making it a perfect fit for such an adaptation.

During the same presentation, CD Projekt RED confirmed a new milestone for Cyberpunk 2077, with the game reaching 25 million sales. Phantom Liberty has also sold 3 million units.

The recently announced adaptation is likely to ensure renewed interest in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and it will be interesting to see if stars like Keanu Reeves and Idris Elbra are featured in the adaptation.

These popular actors have received a lot of credit for the game’s lively narrative, so the studio may bring them back for a small cameo in the live-action project.
