Story Highlight
  • The Witcher 4 has been surrounded by a major controversy since its reveal.
  • The CDPR CEO says Sweet Baby Inc. is not involved in The Witcher 4.
  • He also states that the team has not lost too much of its talent, as recent rumors have suggested.

The Witcher 4 has been the subject of a major controversy ever since its announcement. Despite the exciting first trailer and various promising details creating buzz for the upcoming RPG, many discussions currently revolve around Ciri’s appearance.

Many have accused CDPR of giving DEI significant weight in The Witcher 4, leading to discourse that has persisted since the initial reveal. However, the CDPR CEO has recently come out with a statement refuting these arguments. As per his latest tweet, the studio is not working with Sweet Baby Inc. in any capacity.

Why it matters: A previous report discussed how CDPR was facing challenges due to losing senior talent and focusing extensively on DEI.

CDPR Responds To DEI Accusations
Michal Nowakowski Clears The Air On Sweet Baby Inc. via Twitter

The joint CEO of CDPR, Michal Nowakowski, recently stated that the team has never worked with Sweet Baby Inc.

He also went on to discuss the previous rumor that suggested the studio had lost much of its legacy talent. Many believed this was what prompted the shift toward Unreal Engine 5, but Michal Nowakowski states this is not the case. In fact, he seems quite confident in his team’s ability.

We are not working with Sweet Baby. Never even heard of them till recently. Also, we have not lost prime meat (developer talent).

-Michal Nowakowski

In an earlier tweet, the joint CEO also stated that around 100 veteran developers have been brought over to future projects, including the latest iteration of The Witcher, from the original titles.

It should still be noted that Sweet Baby Inc.’s exclusion does not guarantee a light focus on DEI for The Witcher 4 since CDPR has a variety of diversity programs of its own. However, the joint CEO’s statement should at least put the Sweet Baby Inc. rumors to rest.
