- Black Myth: Wukong broke many records despite being a completely new IP.
- It has over 95% positive rating and is the most played single-player game on Steam.
- Due to that, the game has been nominated for the most prestigious award of the year.
Black Myth: Wukong, the biggest hit this year, has surprisingly seen some criticism from several media. The game received low review scores because it apparently features less diversity and inclusivity, even though you are playing as a monkey.
However, the fandom showered it with nothing but praise, as it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. Due to the game making history and having such a positive reception, it has been nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024.
Why it matters: There were a lot of concerns from the fandom that Black Myth: Wukong wouldn’t be nominated for the most prestigious award, but now there is no need to have those concerns.
Geoff Keighley has just announced the nominees for the Game of the Year award, and fans would be delighted to know that Wukong is one of them. However, the competition is going to be pretty tough as Shadow of the Erdtree, Astro Bot, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have also been nominated for the award.
It is actually pretty surprising that the hit Chinese RPG was nominated for the GOTY Award, as it was criticised by some media outlets. However, the fandom’s reception seems to have changed a lot of views, and the jury decided to nominate it.
Fans should also note that the game has been nominated in 4 different categories. So, even if it doesn’t win GOTY, it has a chance to win in the Best Art Direction, Best Action Game, and Best Game Direction category.
