Bethesda Has Canceled Funding For Unannounced Games Amid Xbox Layoffs

Affected Studios Are Devastated With The Situation!

Story Highlight
  • Post Xbox layoffs, Bethesda has pulled funding from various unannounced projects.
  • The team at Romero Games is heartbroken by this, as they are proud of their work.
  • This comes after Xbox also canceled first-party games like Perfect Dark and more.

Following the cancellation of Perfect Dark, Everwild, and more, it seems Microsoft has shelved certain projects as well. While they claim there are still around 40 games in development, certain unannounced projects also seem to be affected.

A new report reveals that Bethesda has pulled the funding on several unannounced games as well. These were smaller studios working on different titles, so this would be a nightmare situation for them.

Why it matters: In a move to restructure and grow further, Xbox has made several layoffs, cancellations, and has even stopped funding games from other smaller studios.

Bethesda has canceled funding for many unannounced projects

Romero Games Ltd took to X to announce that their publisher, Bethesda, has canceled funding for their title and several other unannounced games at other studios, as a strategic move to manage budgets.

They stated that this doesn’t reflect the work they put into their title, as they worked so hard for it, and this move has put them in a tight spot. They’ve also requested that if anyone can help them, they’ll be glad to accept it.

Perfect Dark
Perfect Dark was also canceled as part of the restructuring at Xbox

Now, there is no telling if anyone else will fund the remaining development, but considering the hard work it takes, this is a very sad situation. Nonetheless, we hope all affected studios find their footing again and complete their projects.
