- Avowed has recently been delayed to 2025.
- Recent impressions of the demo suggest that this RPG is not as great as expected.
- It seems this limited hands-on demo was bogged down by a fetch quest and repetition, leading to an unsatisfactory experience.
Avowed is among the biggest Xbox exclusives coming in the future. Initially announced with a 2024 release date, it has been delayed to next year to avoid further saturating an already busy Game Pass lineup.
While fans have high expectations from the RPG, not everyone has found Obsidian’s latest work equally enjoyable. Recent impressions from the demo seem to imply that Avowed is disappointing as an RPG from the iconic studios.
Why it matters: The game took three times longer to develop than Fallout New Vegas. Therefore, fans have higher expectations and hope that the delay will allow the studio to make further improvements to its upcoming release.
As reported by PCGamesN, who got to play the Avowed demo during Gamescom 2024, the RPG fell short of expectations after two playthroughs.
Talking about his time with the game, the journalist stated that the quest disappointed him the most as it was a dull fetch mission that ended far too quickly and easily. It has also been stated that the demo became way easier as soon as he realized that he could win any fight just with the grenades.
Therefore, the combat experience was far from great. Still, the preview states that Avowed’s open world looked solid in the preview, and performance was fairly consistent.
On the subject of performance, it has been reported that Avowed will target 30FPS on consoles, though Obsidian did hint that this was not the final performance target.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how Avowed performs at release. Obsidian is no stranger to criticism, and its latest project has faced it at multiple points already.
However, the team seems to be approaching this criticism with a positive attitude, so all hope is not lost just yet. Avowed will be the first major Xbox release next year, so fans have high hopes for the RPG.
